MetaMask on Thursday introduced Agent Wallet, a self-custodial wallet designed to let AI agents carry out on-chain transactions within limits set by the user. The product targets traders and developers using AI to watch markets, spot trading opportunities, and act without constant manual input. Instead of handing over full wallet control, MetaMask says users can impose spending caps, approve specific protocols, define risk settings, and choose between Guard Mode and Beast Mode for different levels of automation. Agent Wallet supports Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenClaw, Hermes, and OpenCode, along with Hyperliquid and Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible networks. It also includes gas abstraction, which allows network fees to be paid in the asset being moved rather than requiring the chain’s native token. According to MetaMask, the product is built for traders and developers that use AI agents to monitor markets, identify opportunities, and execute transactions autonomously.

User-defined limits instead of unrestricted wallet access

Rather than giving an AI agent open-ended access to a wallet, MetaMask said users can set spending caps, approve specific protocols, choose risk settings, and switch between Guard Mode and Beast Mode, which provide different degrees of automation.

Support for AI coding tools, Hyperliquid, and EVM networks

Agent Wallet supports Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenClaw, Hermes, and OpenCode. It also works with Hyperliquid and Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible networks.

The wallet includes gas abstraction, allowing users to pay network fees with the asset being transferred instead of holding a network’s native token.

“Never worry about paying for gas,” the company wrote. “Agents can transfer and swap without holding a chain's native token for gas; MetaMask settles the network fee in the token being moved.”

Follows a June rollout to about 200 early access users

The launch comes after MetaMask rolled out Agent Wallet in June to about 200 early access users.

It also arrives as crypto firms race to build infrastructure for AI agents that can manage portfolios, execute trades, and interact with decentralized applications. Coinbase introduced Agentic Wallets in February. MoonPay expanded its AI agent strategy in March, then extended its MoonAgents platform to Telegram in July.

Security controls and transaction coverage

MetaMask said Agent Wallet lowers security risk by enforcing permissions at the wallet level rather than relying on AI agents to behave safely on their own.

According to the company, supported transactions are routed through transaction simulation, threat scanning, and smart transaction MEV protection.

MetaMask also offers Transaction Protection coverage of up to $10,000 per month for eligible transactions that pass its security checks but still lead to losses.

“This security-first model is why Agent Wallet is built around rules, not blind delegation,” MetaMask said. “The agent can act, but it acts inside the user's boundaries.”
