MiniMax has officially rebranded its desktop Agent product as Mavis, alongside a major product upgrade centered on Agent Teams, a new multi-agent collaboration feature. The update is aimed at users who need to handle complex, long-duration workflows that are difficult for a single agent to manage consistently and effectively.
Agent Teams targets complex task execution
According to the company, Agent Teams enables users to build groups of agents with distinct responsibilities, allowing them to work together on tasks that require decomposition, execution, and verification across multiple steps. MiniMax argues that single-agent systems can struggle with long-running assignments, especially when interruptions occur or output quality declines over time.
To address those issues, Mavis uses a code-based state machine to coordinate collaboration among roles such as Owner, Worker, and Verifier. In this model, the Owner is responsible for planning and task breakdown, the Worker handles execution, and the Verifier checks results and output quality. MiniMax said this architecture is intended to improve determinism when dealing with more demanding workflows.
Unified subscriptions and shared quota
Alongside the rebrand and feature launch, MiniMax has also streamlined its product plans. Previously separate API and Agent subscriptions have now been merged into a single plan, with CLI, API, and Agent capabilities sharing one unified quota. This change gives users a more consolidated way to access and manage the company’s tools without juggling multiple subscription structures.
MiniMax acknowledged that multi-agent collaboration introduces additional overhead, but said the tradeoff is worthwhile for tasks that require stronger process control, validation, and more predictable outcomes. Overall, the Mavis update signals a broader shift from a standalone desktop agent product toward a more structured collaborative agent platform for advanced task orchestration.
