Mirae Asset is planning a 150 trillion won, or about $109 billion, digital asset business centered on Digital X, the exchange formerly known as Korbit, according to The Korea Times. The South Korean financial group’s plan covers crypto, stablecoins, real-world assets and security token offerings, and includes tokenizing physical assets such as gold, silver and electricity. The move follows Mirae Asset Consulting’s July acquisition of a 97.15% stake in Korbit for a cumulative 141.4 billion won, after which the exchange was rebranded as Digital X. The deal marked the first time an affiliate of a South Korean financial group took control of a domestic crypto exchange. Founded in 2013, Korbit was South Korea’s first cryptocurrency exchange, though the Fair Trade Commission said it held just 0.5% of the country’s crypto trading market in 2025. Mirae Asset founder and chairman Park Hyeon-joo said in Seoul on Wednesday that the initial goal is to make Digital X a core pillar of “Mirae Asset 3.0.” Digital X also began waiving trading fees on all won-denominated assets on Monday, with the policy running through Aug. 24, 2027.

Mirae Asset Consulting took control of Korbit in July
The expansion plan comes after Mirae Asset Consulting acquired a 97.15% stake in Korbit in July for a cumulative 141.4 billion won. The exchange was later rebranded as Digital X.
That transaction marked the first time an affiliate of a South Korean financial group acquired control of a domestic crypto exchange.
Korbit’s market share remained small in 2025
Founded in 2013, Korbit was South Korea’s first cryptocurrency exchange. Even with that history, it accounted for just 0.5% of South Korea’s cryptocurrency trading market in 2025, according to the country’s Fair Trade Commission.
Park Hyeon-joo set out the goal in Seoul
Mirae Asset founder and chairman Park Hyeon-joo presented the plan at a Digital X employee event in Seoul on Wednesday. According to The Korea Times, he said: “Our initial goal is to make Digital X a core pillar of ‘Mirae Asset 3.0.’”
