Mirae Asset Consulting has secured majority control of Korbit, one of South Korea’s earliest cryptocurrency exchanges, raising its ownership to 97.15% in a deal valued at about KRW 141.4 billion, or roughly $95 million to $102 million based on exchange rates cited in the report. South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission approved the acquisition on July 9, 2026, saying the transaction was unlikely to restrict competition, while noting that Korbit held about 0.5% of the local crypto trading market in 2025. Mirae Asset said Korbit’s operating entity, user deposits and core trading services will remain unchanged for now, and client assets will continue to be segregated under existing protection rules. The exchange will be renamed Digital X. Founder and Global Strategy Officer Park Hyeon-joo said the platform is central to Mirae Asset’s 3.0 strategy, with plans to connect tokenized real-world assets, security token offerings, stablecoins, traditional securities and digital assets on one platform. The company said Digital X is not aimed at overtaking Upbit or Bithumb by trading volume, but will instead serve as an infrastructure platform built on Korbit’s existing licenses and user base.

Part of the Mirae Asset 3.0 strategy
Park Hyeon-joo, founder and Global Strategy Officer of Mirae Asset, said Digital X is a core part of the group’s Mirae Asset 3.0 strategy. The plan is to connect tokenized real-world assets, security token offerings, stablecoins, traditional securities and digital assets on the same platform.
Positioned as infrastructure, not a volume challenger
Mirae Asset said Digital X is not aiming to surpass Upbit or Bithumb in trading volume. Instead, it will be positioned as an infrastructure platform that combines Mirae Asset’s background in securities and asset management with Korbit’s digital-asset operating experience. For now, Digital X will operate on the basis of Korbit’s existing licenses and user base.
