A shell company with ties to Elon Musk, WIT Tech LLC, has purchased at least six parcels of land in Grimes County, outside Houston, Texas, in recent weeks. The acquired land totals more than 6,000 acres (approximately 24.3 square kilometers), or nearly 10 square miles. County land records confirm the transfers, though the transaction values have not been disclosed. The move is widely seen as a strong indication that the Terafab chip manufacturing project—backed jointly by SpaceX, Tesla, and xAI—is moving closer to finalizing its site selection.
The Terafab initiative plans to build a $55 billion advanced semiconductor facility, with total investment potentially reaching up to $119 billion. Led by three of Musk’s core companies, the project aims to create dedicated chip production capacity for artificial intelligence and robotics applications, meeting surging future demand for computing power. If the Houston-area location is confirmed, Texas would host one of the largest semiconductor construction efforts in recent U.S. history, significantly strengthening domestic high-end chip supply chains.
