NetEase Youdao’s office agent product LobsterAI used Tencent’s planned shutdown of QClaw to make a public point about how large tech companies handle product competition internally. In a letter to users, LobsterAI said it would not build products with a "launch first, figure it out later" mindset, and would not treat user experience or user data as chips in internal product races. QClaw, a local AI assistant launched by Tencent in March this year, supports remote computer control through WeChat. Tencent announced on Sept. 24 that QClaw will cease operations on Dec. 24. The official reason given was a business adjustment, and Tencent said it would offer refunds and a migration path to WorkBuddy.
NetEase Youdao also said it moved quickly after the shutdown notice. According to the company, it launched a QClaw migration assistant on the same day Tencent announced the service closure, allowing users to import existing data into LobsterAI.
