OFAC Sanctions and Tether Freeze
The U.S. Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) added 134 cryptocurrency wallet addresses linked to the terrorist group ISIS-K to its sanctions list on July 2. According to blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis, 131 of these addresses were on the Tron network and collectively received over $1.4 million in crypto donations. Stablecoin issuer Tether promptly moved to freeze USDT and other assets held on the affected Tron wallets.

This enforcement action represents OFAC's latest crackdown on terrorist financing via digital assets, underscoring the ongoing surveillance of crypto payment channels. The heavy concentration of Tron addresses highlights ISIS-K's preference for the network's low fees and relative anonymity. The public disclosure of the sanctioned addresses will compel exchanges and wallet providers to implement compliance checks and block any associated transactions.
