OKX has launched OKX Money, a consumer app that allows eligible users to convert more than 50 local currencies into USDG, USDC, or USDT, transfer stablecoins, and spend through a virtual or physical card.
According to a statement released Tuesday, users in participating markets can fund their accounts with local currencies and hold balances in USDG, USDC, or USDT. They can send stablecoins, switch between supported tokens without conversion fees, and use the card for purchases in other currencies. OKX said those card transactions will carry no foreign-exchange fee or markup.
Yield, cashback and eligibility vary by market
OKX said qualifying customers can earn up to 10% annual percentage yield on eligible USDG holdings, with no lockup period and no staking requirement. The app also includes up to 10% cashback on eligible purchases as well as referral rewards. Product availability, rates, and eligibility differ by location.
In its statement, OKX said, “Hundreds of millions of people have been excluded from dollar-denominated savings and frictionless global spending because the infrastructure was never built for them,” adding that OKX Money is the first step in a longer program.
A push beyond crypto-native users
The app is aimed at consumers looking for access to digital dollars and global payments. While similar services already exist, the product is positioned toward non-crypto users. The design appears intended to keep the blockchain layer abstracted from people who simply want to hold digital dollars and pay with a card.
CoinDesk noted that Binance Pay already lets users hold stablecoins, spend globally, earn passive yield, and send cross-border payments with zero gas fees. Coinbase One offers automated yield on USDC of up to 3.75% to 5%, depending on membership tier and region. Bybit Card and Savings also provides automatic fiat-to-stablecoin conversions and global spending through a Mastercard-backed card.
Stablecoins are being packaged as a consumer payment product
The launch comes as exchanges and payments companies increasingly try to present stablecoins as a familiar consumer product: a dollar balance that can be held, sent, and spent, rather than just a token used for trading. Tracked crypto-card spending has topped $1 billion this year, as companies compete to bring stablecoin balances into everyday purchases.
CoinDesk reported that OKX ranks third on CoinGecko, with more than $2.2 billion in 24-hour trading volume. The company is packaging these services for customers in markets where local currencies can be volatile and access to U.S. dollar savings, global cards, or cross-border payments is limited or expensive.
Launch markets were not disclosed
The new app also extends OKX’s consumer-finance push after the exchange secured a Maltese payments-institution license this year to support European stablecoin and card services.
Still, the rollout begins in unspecified participating markets. OKX did not disclose the launch countries and did not identify the entity providing the card program.
