OKX has released the Exchange OS whitepaper, opening its on-chain trading infrastructure to developers, institutions, and startups that want to build their own markets on X Layer without centralized approval. The framework supports three market types: spot, perpetual futures, and prediction markets. OKX also said the first live use case under this model will be a 2026 World Cup prediction marketplace scheduled for launch in June.

Framework covers spot, perpetuals, and prediction markets

Exchange OS is described as an open trading protocol built to reduce the time and complexity required to launch a crypto exchange environment. According to the material, builders can deploy spot markets for direct crypto trading, perpetual contract markets for leveraged positions without expiry, and prediction markets tied to real-world outcomes such as sports events or elections. The article says this cuts down a process that would otherwise take years to build from scratch.

Permissionless deployment comes with an OKB staking requirement

OKX founder and CEO Star Xu said Exchange OS provides shared on-chain trading infrastructure while leaving control of the front-end design, market rules, risk settings, and compliance configuration to the operator. In practice, that means there is no centralized gatekeeper approving each market before launch. One requirement remains: developers must stake OKB in the X Layer staking contract before deploying a market.

Unified account design aims to remove capital fragmentation

The system also uses a unified account structure. Funds can move across spot, perpetual, and prediction markets without being split between separate apps or isolated balances. That matters for traders using multiple strategies, since the same pool of capital can be used across different market types. Settlement is also unified, with all supported markets operating on the same settlement layer.

Whitepaper lists performance metrics and launch partners

On performance, the published figures include 300,000 TPS, millisecond-level matching, and unified settlement. OKX says the infrastructure is the same grade as the system behind its own exchange. The partner list named in the article includes Chainlink, GSR, Amber Group, Maple Finance, Alibaba Cloud, Optimism, Pyth Network, Chainalysis, Nansen, and Glassnode, spanning oracle services, compliance tools, cloud infrastructure, and market data.

According to the release, the rollout will proceed in stages through a community proposal process called XIP-Exchange OS. OKX is using its own product launch to show how the framework works in practice, with the World Cup prediction market positioned as the first public implementation.
