OpenAI rolled out a broad Codex update at DevDay, with Codex Cloud now able to save a reusable cloud development environment for each project. That setup can include the code repository, dependencies, tools, and permission settings, allowing developers to reuse the same environment across tasks instead of rebuilding it each time.
The update also changes how work moves between local and cloud environments. Developers can start tasks directly in the cloud, or hand off work already being processed by local Codex to Codex Cloud. Once launched, the task continues in the cloud workspace, where Codex can keep editing code and running tests without relying on the local computer. Results can later be checked from desktop, web, or mobile, and changes can be synced back to the local machine.
OpenAI also added voice control to Codex CLI and introduced a new /agents page for assigning work to multiple agents at the same time. On desktop, Codex now includes Code Review support for GitHub pull requests and GitLab merge requests, with first-pass reviews able to run in the cloud. Codex Security Cloud was also expanded with automated security checks for new commits and scheduled scans across full GitHub repositories. Daybreak Blue is now included by default and no longer requires a separate application.

Reusable cloud environments added to Codex Cloud
According to a BlockBeats brief citing Beating AI, Codex Cloud can now save a reusable cloud development environment for a project. That environment can include the code repository, dependencies, tools, and permission settings, which can be configured once and reused later.
Developers can launch tasks directly in the cloud, or pass work already being handled by local Codex to Codex Cloud so it can continue there. The cloud service uses its own project workspace to keep editing code and running tests, and once the task starts, it no longer depends on the local computer.
Even if the computer goes to sleep, developers can come back later on desktop, web, or mobile to check the result and sync the changes back to their local setup.
CLI, review, and security features also expanded
Codex CLI now includes voice control, and a new /agents page allows users to assign work to multiple agents at the same time.
The desktop version has also added Code Review support for GitHub pull requests and GitLab merge requests. OpenAI said first-round code review can also be handled in the cloud.
Codex Security Cloud received stronger automated security checks as well. It can continuously inspect new code commits or scan an entire GitHub repository on a schedule to investigate vulnerabilities, deduplicate findings, and prepare remediation plans.
Daybreak Blue is now included directly and no longer requires a separate application.
