OpenAI has raised its projected spending on computing resources through 2030 to about $750 billion, up from $600 billion, according to BlockBeats. The company has also started the Camellia data center project in Georgia, with an initial investment of $20 billion, expected power supply of 3.2 gigawatts between 2028 and 2032, and a possible total cost above $30 billion. The report said OpenAI had already signed a data center capacity agreement with Oracle for 6 gigawatts, expanded a multi-year deal with Amazon Web Services to $13.8 billion, and plans to add $250 billion in cloud spending on Microsoft Azure. OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar had previously raised concerns that the company could struggle to keep funding compute expansion if revenue growth fails to keep pace with spending. Separately, AMD reached a server partnership with Anthropic worth several billion dollars. Anthropic plans to buy up to 2 gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450 chips starting in 2027. AMD may also invest up to $5 billion in Anthropic once the project reaches specified deployment milestones. The report also said SpaceXAI is building at least one large data center in Texas.

OpenAI has raised its projected spending on computing resources through 2030 to about $750 billion from $600 billion, according to BlockBeats on July 22.

OpenAI expands data center and cloud commitments

The company has also launched the Camellia data center project in Georgia. The site carries an initial investment of $20 billion, is expected to receive 3.2 gigawatts of power supply between 2028 and 2032, and could end up costing more than $30 billion in total.

Before that, OpenAI had signed an agreement with Oracle for 6 gigawatts of data center capacity. It also expanded its multi-year partnership with Amazon Web Services to $13.8 billion and plans to add another $250 billion in cloud computing spending on Microsoft Azure.

OpenAI Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar had previously expressed concern that if revenue growth does not keep up with spending, the company may find it difficult to continue funding the cost of compute expansion.

AMD signs multi-billion-dollar server pact with Anthropic

AMD, meanwhile, has reached a server partnership with Anthropic valued in the billions of dollars. Anthropic is set to purchase up to 2 gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450 series chips starting in 2027.

Once the project reaches certain deployment targets, AMD will invest up to $5 billion in Anthropic. Anthropic already uses Google TPU, Amazon Trainium, and Nvidia GPU products, and the new deal adds to its chip supply base.

SpaceXAI plans another large data center

Separately, SpaceXAI, backed by Elon Musk, is preparing at least one large data center in Texas to expand its AI computing capacity beyond its existing facility in Memphis, Tennessee.
