According to ChainCatcher, citing a Nikkei report, Akira Tagaya, president of Osaka Exchange under Japan Exchange Group, said in an interview that the exchange plans to launch Bitcoin futures in 2028. The planned product is intended to address hedging demand from institutional investors that invest in Bitcoin exchange-traded funds.

The report also said Japan’s Financial Services Agency plans to revise the enforcement order of the Investment Trust Act before 2028. The revision would add crypto assets to the scope of “specified assets,” allowing asset management companies to create investment trusts that include cryptocurrencies.

The two developments are described within the same 2028 timeframe: Osaka Exchange is preparing a Bitcoin futures offering, while Japan’s Financial Services Agency is working on changes to investment trust rules. The exchange plan was stated by Tagaya, while the regulatory adjustment concerns whether crypto assets can be included in investment trust structures.
