Photon, a messaging infrastructure company, said it has added A2A, or agent-to-agent communication and collaboration, to iMessage group chats. The update lets a user’s personal AI agent find other agents, obtain their phone numbers, and add them to a shared group conversation to work on a task together. In Photon’s example, a user planning a team outing could have one agent recruit other agents focused on lodging, rides, and restaurant reservations, with all of them coordinating inside the same chat while the user watches or joins in. Photon calls the setup "Agent-to-Agent-to-Person," describing a workflow where multiple agents and a human collaborate in one thread. The company said the feature is built on the A2A protocol and its agent discovery mechanism, a protocol that was originally proposed by Google. Photon had already enabled AI agents to send and receive messages through iMessage. The new release adds the ability to actively discover other agents and create group chats. Photon also recently closed a $4.5 million seed round. Founder Daniel Tian said he wants every business to offer its own agent so other agents can contact it directly.

Photon, a messaging infrastructure company, said it has brought A2A, short for agent-to-agent communication and collaboration, into iMessage group chats.

Agents can now find other agents and add them to a group chat

According to Photon, a user only needs to assign a task. The user’s personal agent can then look for other agents, get their phone numbers, and pull them into the same iMessage group chat.

Photon gave the example of organizing a team trip. A personal agent could find agents handling lodging, ride-hailing, and restaurant bookings, then have them coordinate the itinerary together inside the group chat. The user can check the conversation at any time and join the discussion when needed.

Photon calls the model Agent-to-Agent-to-Person

Photon described the setup as "Agent-to-Agent-to-Person," meaning multiple agents work alongside a human in the same conversation.

On the technical side, the feature is built on the A2A protocol and its agent discovery mechanism. Photon said the protocol was originally proposed by Google.

The update expands Photon’s existing iMessage support

Photon had already supported AI agents sending and receiving messages through iMessage. This release adds the ability for those agents to actively discover other agents and create group chats.

Photon also recently completed a $4.5 million seed round. Founder Daniel Tian said he hopes every business will offer its own agent so that other agents can contact it directly.
