Poland's Sejm failed to override President Karol Nawrocki's veto of a cryptocurrency market regulation bill, falling 25 votes short of the required 266. This marks the third time Nawrocki has rejected the bill. The president argued the bill would overregulate and push Polish firms abroad. Prime Minister Donald Tusk had urged support, citing an investigation into the collapsed Zondacrypto exchange.
The lower house of Poland's parliament, the Sejm, failed to override President Karol Nawrocki's veto of a bill that would regulate the cryptocurrency market, according to Polish Radio. In the vote on September 5, 241 of the 442 deputies present supported overriding the veto, 198 opposed, and 3 abstained — 25 votes short of the required 266. This is the third time Nawrocki has vetoed the legislation. The bill proposed putting the Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) in charge of crypto market oversight. Nawrocki argued the bill was overly restrictive and could drive Polish businesses to relocate abroad. Prime Minister Donald Tusk had called for support before the vote, referencing an investigation into the defunct Zondacrypto exchange.
