A prediction market contract on Polymarket tied to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s choice for the next White House press secretary briefly climbed before giving back part of the move. According to PPP’s prediction market monitoring tool, the probability on the contract asking whether Trump will choose Margo Martin for the role rose to 15% at one point, then slipped back to 9%. The market was still up 5% over the past 24 hours.
The move followed remarks Trump made this week at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland when he was asked who could succeed White House press secretary Leavitt. Trump turned to reporters and said, “How about Margo, what do you think about her?” He then joked about the question and added, “I don’t know, maybe it’s you.”
Leavitt is set to leave at the end of August, and U.S. media have recently focused on who will take over the position. Martin currently serves as a special assistant to the president and communications adviser, with work that mainly includes posting information about presidential activities on social media.
