Bitcoin Accumulation: 450 BTC Added
ProCap Financial continued its dual strategic thrust this week with the acquisition of 450 Bitcoin, bringing total holdings to 5,457 BTC and lowering its average cost basis. The purchase was made near $65,000 per Bitcoin, which management views as a long-term buying opportunity. The company financed the ~$35.4 million transaction through working capital and option exercises, as disclosed in an SEC filing on March 2.
Chairman and CEO Anthony Pompliano said the Bitcoin purchases enhance the company's balance sheet and position it to benefit from future upside in the flagship cryptocurrency. According to Bitcointreasuries.net, ProCap now ranks among the top 20 largest publicly traded corporate holders of Bitcoin.
Share Buybacks: Closing the NAV Discount
Alongside Bitcoin accumulation, ProCap has been executing an aggressive open-market share repurchase program since late December 2025. The board approved a $100 million buyback authorization, giving management flexibility to repurchase shares at deep discounts to intrinsic value. Recent buybacks include:
- 148,241 shares at roughly a 35% discount to NAV on Feb. 20
- 155,561 shares at around 32% discount on Feb. 23
- 158,796 shares at approximately 30% discount on Feb. 24
- 159,904 shares at an approximate 25-28% discount on Feb. 25-26
In total, over 700,000 shares have been repurchased in recent weeks, a substantial pace relative to the ~82.6 million shares outstanding. Pompliano described the buybacks as 'capital allocation 101,' arguing that buying stock at deep discounts to estimated NAV boosts per-share value for long-term holders. 'If the market wants to irrationally sell us shares below NAV, we will keep aggressively buying them,' he said.
The Logic Behind the Dual Strategy
Both actions—Bitcoin purchases and share buybacks—are positioned as NAV-accretive. Pompliano stated, 'We are doing two things at the same time: buying Bitcoin to average down our total cost basis and buying back our own stock when the market misprices it. Both actions are accretive to our shareholders.' The ongoing buybacks have helped narrow the discount to NAV over the past week, but management reiterated that repurchases will continue as long as BRR trades at a significant discount to NAV. Investors have taken note, and the stock's NAV discount has tightened, though the company says 'the work isn't finished.'
