Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio said investors should put money into gold and "a bit of Bitcoin" as a potential debt crisis looms. In a Friday LinkedIn post, he suggested holding 10% to 15% of a portfolio in gold to help reduce risk, and said gold and Bitcoin should be overweight relative to debt assets such as bonds. Dalio said the risks come from internal political and external geopolitical conflicts, and added that a U.S. debt crisis could arrive in about three years, give or take two, if the current path does not change. The billionaire investor also noted that he has previously said Bitcoin cannot replace gold as a store of value, while warning about privacy and quantum-computing risks. He echoed comments from July 2025 saying he held some, but not much, Bitcoin, and had recommended holding up to 15% in gold and cryptocurrency. In 2022, he said holding 1% to 2% of BTC in a portfolio was reasonable.

In a Friday LinkedIn post, Dalio said holding 10% to 15% of a portfolio in gold could help reduce risk. He said gold and Bitcoin (BTC) should be overweight compared with debt assets, citing risks from "internal political and external geopolitical conflicts."

He said a U.S. debt crisis could arrive in about three years

"My guess, which I suppose will be a bad one, is that [a US debt crisis] will come in three years, give or take two, if the course we're on is not changed," Dalio wrote.

The Bridgewater founder has an estimated net worth of more than $15 billion.

Dalio has been cautious on Bitcoin for years

Dalio has previously argued that Bitcoin cannot replace gold as a store of value and has warned about privacy concerns and threats from quantum computing.

His Friday remarks echoed comments he made in July 2025, when he said he held some, "but not much," Bitcoin and recommended holding up to 15% in cryptocurrency and gold. In 2022, months before a major crypto market downturn, he said holding 1% to 2% of BTC in a portfolio was "reasonable."
