Ripple announced on Monday it had received full approval of an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license from Luxembourg's financial regulator, the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF). The company had obtained "preliminary" approval last month and has now met all conditions for final authorization.
Strategic Push in Europe
Cassie Craddock, Managing Director of UK & Europe at Ripple, said Europe has always been a strategic priority. This authorization allows Ripple to scale compliant blockchain infrastructure for EU clients, helping businesses transition into a digital-first financial era.
The move builds on Ripple's recent regulatory momentum in Europe. Last month, the company secured an EMI license and cryptoasset registration from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
Ripple Payments Rollout
Ripple plans to leverage the Luxembourg license to accelerate its cross-border payments product, Ripple Payments, across the EU. The product targets banks, fintechs, and enterprises. Luxembourg is a common base for regulated financial services in the bloc, though Ripple did not specify a timeline or priority member states.
The company now holds over 75 global licenses, positioning it as one of the most licensed crypto firms as the industry shifts toward regulated, institution-focused use cases.
