Ripple has announced a sweeping expansion in Brazil, positioning itself at the center of the country's institutional cryptocurrency infrastructure. On March 17, the blockchain company unveiled an integrated platform that combines payments, custody, stablecoins, prime brokerage, and treasury management into a single offering, and confirmed its intention to apply for a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license from the Central Bank of Brazil.

“Latin America has always been a priority market for Ripple — not only because of the scale of opportunity but because Brazil has built one of the most advanced and forward-looking financial ecosystems in the world,” said Monica Long, President of Ripple.

Unified Institutional Platform

Ripple Payments, which has processed over $100 billion globally across more than 60 markets, is already being used by Brazilian institutions including Banco Genial, Braza Bank, Nomad, Azify, ATTRUS, and Frente Corretora. These clients use the platform for liquidity management, settlement, and cross-border transactions involving both fiat currencies and stablecoins. The integrated approach aims to reduce reliance on traditional correspondent banking networks, which are often slower and more expensive in emerging markets.

The company stated that the bundled offering reflects a broader industry shift where institutions increasingly prefer unified platforms over multiple separate providers for payments, custody, and liquidity.

Custody and Tokenization

Ripple Custody is also entering Brazil, offering bank-grade security, real-time compliance controls via integrations with Chainalysis and Elliptic, and support for tokenization and staking. Partners including CRX and Justoken have leveraged these tools, with nearly $100 million settled on-chain and over $1.7 billion in tokenized assets on the XRP Ledger. This expansion puts Ripple in more direct competition with institutional infrastructure providers such as Fireblocks and Coinbase, which are also expanding their custody and tokenization services globally.

Stablecoin RLUSD Gains Traction

Ripple USD (RLUSD), a dollar-pegged stablecoin with a market capitalization exceeding $1.5 billion, is gaining traction on exchanges and fintech platforms such as Mercado Bitcoin, Foxbit, Ripio, Braza Bank, Banco Genial, and Attrus. The rise of stablecoins in Latin America highlights growing demand for dollar-denominated assets, particularly in economies where currency volatility and payment inefficiencies remain persistent challenges.

Comprehensive Financial System

Combined with Ripple Prime and Ripple Treasury — which provide access to settlement, funding, and liquidity management across markets handling over $3 trillion annually — the platform aims to deliver a comprehensive financial system tailored for institutional demand in Brazil. However, long-term success will depend on Ripple's ability to differentiate itself in an increasingly competitive environment, where both native crypto firms and traditional financial institutions are entering the digital asset space.
