Ripple Obtains Preliminary MiCA License from Luxembourg CSSF
According to Techub News, Ripple received preliminary approval from Luxembourg's financial regulator CSSF on June 23, 2026, for a CASP (Crypto Asset Service Provider) license under the EU's MiCA framework. The approval covers all 30 countries of the European Economic Area (EEA), marking a significant milestone in Ripple's regulatory compliance journey in Europe.
Ripple already held an EMI (Electronic Money Institution) license. The combination of the CASP preliminary approval and the existing EMI license enables Ripple to achieve full MiCA compliance, allowing it to offer services such as cross-border payments, digital asset custody, and fiat on-ramp/off-ramp within the EEA. However, the approval is still in its preliminary stage and requires final conditions to be met before becoming effective.
Global Compliance Leadership and $100B+ Transaction Volume
Ripple holds over 75 regulatory licenses worldwide, including in the US, Singapore, UK, and Switzerland. Its RippleNet payment network has processed more than $100 billion in transaction volume, positioning Ripple as a key player in enterprise blockchain payments.
The MiCA framework took full effect in Europe at the end of 2025, requiring all crypto-asset service providers operating in the EU to obtain appropriate licenses. By securing this preliminary approval, Ripple not only strengthens its position in Europe but also sets a compliance benchmark for other crypto companies. According to ESMA data, only about 17% of European crypto firms had obtained MiCA licenses by mid-2026, highlighting the ongoing regulatory challenges.
Industry Impact and Outlook
Ripple's MiCA compliance progress carries significant implications for the payment and cross-border remittance sectors. As the regulatory landscape matures, compliance will be crucial for crypto companies to gain institutional trust and expand operations. Ripple's extensive license portfolio and transaction volume demonstrate its competitive edge in enterprise applications. Once final conditions are met, the official approval will further enhance its business scalability across Europe.
