Ripple has deepened its institutional push by integrating Coinbase derivatives into its Ripple Prime platform. Clients can now trade the full suite of Coinbase Derivatives contracts—nano Bitcoin, nano Ethereum, XRP, and Solana futures—within Ripple's clearing, financing, and risk management framework. The contracts operate under CFTC oversight with 24/7 trading, a feature that caters to global institutional demand for precise exposure management.
Clearing Membership Unlocks Access
A central development is Ripple becoming a clearing member of Nodal Clear. This allows institutional users to access Coinbase derivatives through Nodal Clear's settlement and risk infrastructure. Paul Cusenza, Chairman and CEO of Nodal Clear, said: "We are pleased to welcome Ripple as a new clearing member of Nodal Clear. Through this relationship, Ripple's clients can now efficiently access the full suite of Coinbase Derivatives contracts."
Boris Ilyevsky, Head of U.S. Futures Exchange at Coinbase, noted the partnership addresses growing institutional appetite for regulated crypto futures while maintaining strong liquidity and safeguards.
Hidden Road Powers the Engine
Ripple Prime's capabilities are built on its earlier acquisition of Hidden Road Partners, which operates as a Futures Commission Merchant. Noel Kimmel, President of Ripple Prime, stated: "Offering the full suite of Coinbase Derivatives contracts within Ripple Prime's robust clearing framework underscores our commitment to delivering increased market access and efficiency to institutions globally." The platform reportedly cleared over $3 trillion in transactions last year.
Broader Infrastructure Buildout
The Coinbase deal is part of a wider strategy. Ripple Prime recently added on-chain derivatives via Hyperliquid, marking its first decentralized venue. On the investment side, Ripple participated in Crossover Markets' $31 million Series B and backed AI startup t54 Labs with $5 million. The company is also unifying custody, liquidity, and collections into one payments platform while simplifying global fiat and stablecoin transfers.
