Bitcoin financial services firm River said its latest estimate puts the number of people worldwide who hold at least one full Bitcoin at about 825,000, far below the roughly 57.5 million millionaires globally. By that comparison, full-Bitcoin holders amount to about one-seventieth of the global millionaire population.
River said the estimate was built from public Bitcoin blockchain data and adjusted for the gap between wallet addresses and actual holders. The company noted that around 972,000 addresses currently hold at least 1 BTC, but that figure includes balances tied to entities such as corporate treasuries, governments, exchange-traded funds, and exchanges, which were excluded from the estimate of individual holders.
The report also pointed to Bitcoin’s capped supply. With a maximum issuance of 21 million coins and about 20.10 million already mined, River said growth in the number of whole-Bitcoin holders is constrained by fixed supply, while the number of millionaires can keep rising as asset prices increase.
