Bitcoin financial services platform River said in a report that corporations have been the biggest buyers of Bitcoin in 2026. So far this year, companies have posted net additions of 193,000 BTC, bringing total corporate holdings to 1.64 million BTC, equal to about 7.8% of supply.
River said corporate Bitcoin purchases reached $15.7 billion over the same period, down by about two-thirds from the same period in 2025.
Strategy and Strive accounted for most of the buying
According to the report, Strategy and Strive together added 197,000 BTC, exceeding total net corporate buying. As of October, Strategy alone held 848,000 BTC.
Other Bitcoin treasury companies bought only 8,000 BTC in total. River said the number of related companies fell this year after rising sixfold in 2025.
Large miners were net sellers
The report said large miners sold 32,800 BTC this year, mainly to build artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Over the past year, the number of public companies holding Bitcoin rose 10%. River also said Robinhood and SpaceX went public in June and disclosed Bitcoin holdings worth more than $1.5 billion.
Treasury allocation and payments
River said a September 2026 survey of more than 4,000 business clients found that, on average, they used 20% of net profit to buy Bitcoin. Bitcoin accounted for 39% of their treasury holdings.
On payments, about 1 million businesses in the United States can accept Bitcoin, and nearly 30,000 have completed payments, up 36% this year.
The report also said Block launched native Bitcoin payments on the Square point-of-sale network in November 2025.
