Robinhood Chain Launch: Full Product Matrix
On July 2, Robinhood hosted the 'The World is Flat' event in London, announcing the official mainnet launch of its Layer-2 blockchain, Robinhood Chain, built on Arbitrum Orbit. The chain is designed for institutional-grade applications and AI-native architectures, with optimizations for real-world assets (RWA). Alongside the chain, Robinhood rolled out several on-chain products: Tokenized stocks are now supported in Robinhood Wallet across 120+ countries, tradeable via DEXs such as Uniswap, Rialto, Lighter, 1inch, and Arcus, and usable as collateral for lending and liquidity pools; On-chain perpetuals offer trading beyond traditional market hours, with an initial 90-day fee and gas subsidy; Robinhood Earn, a decentralized lending product for U.S. users backed by Morpho and supported by Steakhouse, Ethena, Spark, and Maple, targets an annual yield of ~7% with insurance coverage; and Agentic Accounts, an AI-powered trading tool, allows qualified users to delegate execution strategies to an AI model with defined risk parameters.

Ecosystem Integration and dYdX Controversy
Leveraging Robinhood's massive user base (approximately 27.7 million funded accounts), top protocols including Uniswap, 1inch, Lighter, Morpho, Chainlink, BitGo, Ethena, and EtherFi have announced integration with Robinhood Chain, covering trading, liquidity, lending, oracles, custody, and cross-chain services. The most controversial partnership involves dYdX Foundation's new DEX, Arcus. Built on Robinhood Chain rather than dYdX Chain, Arcus supports 95 tokenized stocks, perpetuals, and major crypto assets, and plans to accept tokenized stocks and crypto as margin while enabling pre-IPO equity trading (e.g., OpenAI). The move drew immediate backlash from the dYdX community, who argued that the core team's 'new venture' would divert development resources, attract liquidity away from dYdX Chain, and ultimately dilute the value of DYDX tokens. dYdX founder Antonio explained in an open letter that the choice to build on Robinhood Chain was driven by access to ready-made liquidity and a large user base, and revealed that Arcus had received a strategic investment from Robinhood Crypto. He promised that if Arcus issues a token, a portion would be allocated to the dYdX community, and that Arcus would prioritize dYdX traders. Despite these assurances, DYDX dropped 40.7% intraday following the announcement.
Market Impact and Strategic Outlook
On the same day, Robinhood's stock rose 8.35% to $108.6, hitting a six-month high. This expansion comes as Robinhood's crypto business faces headwinds: Q1 crypto revenue fell 47% YoY to $134 million, and crypto notional trading volume declined 48% YoY to $24 billion. Robinhood is leveraging Robinhood Chain to transform its internet brokerage into an on-chain financial gateway, while accelerating global expansion. The platform now serves ~28 million users, has officially launched in Canada, obtained a MAS capital markets license in Singapore, plans to launch commodity, ETF, and FX perpetuals in Europe, and is preparing crypto trading services in the UK. Whether Robinhood's ambitions become reality remains to be seen, but the initial market response suggests both opportunity and significant friction.
