Robinhood Chief Executive Officer Vlad Tenev has called on U.S. regulators to establish a regulatory framework for tokenized stocks, arguing that the country risks ceding leadership in the next generation of financial market infrastructure to overseas jurisdictions if it fails to act. In a post on X cited by CoinDesk, Tenev said the financial system is still in the early stage of a "tokenization supercycle" and framed tokenized equities as a key part of that shift. He said Robinhood already offers tokenized versions of more than 190 U.S. stocks to users in over 120 countries, allowing investors to gain economic exposure to those assets and receive dividends. Tenev also highlighted three advantages he sees in tokenization: real-time settlement, which he said could reduce settlement risk beyond the current T+1 system; 24/7 trading; and the ability to move assets seamlessly across platforms. He warned that if the United States does not move forward, other parts of the world could build the future financial system around U.S. assets while Americans themselves are left out.

Robinhood Chief Executive Officer Vlad Tenev has urged U.S. regulators to build a regulatory framework for tokenized stocks, warning that the United States could hand leadership in the next generation of financial market infrastructure to overseas markets if it does not act.

According to CoinDesk, Tenev said in a post on X that the financial system is still in the early stage of a "tokenization supercycle." He said Robinhood has already made tokenized versions of more than 190 U.S. stocks available to users in over 120 countries, giving investors economic exposure to those assets as well as dividends.

Tenev pointed to three benefits of tokenization: real-time settlement, which he said could further reduce settlement risk compared with the current T+1 system; 24/7 trading; and seamless transfer of assets across different platforms.

He added that if the United States fails to move, other regions around the world could build the future financial system around U.S. assets while Americans themselves are shut out.
