Robinhood co-founder Vlad Tenev said developers building on-chain around the company’s ecosystem have created liquidity pools and protocols that went beyond what Robinhood originally expected. Speaking on the podcast The Iced Coffee Hour, Tenev said these structures combine meme coins, core crypto assets, and tokenized stocks in ways the company had not initially envisioned.
He described meme coins as serving as an "entry point" or a "reward mechanism" that links users to real stock tokens. Tenev also outlined a broader goal for Robinhood: lifting the share of U.S. households that own stocks from around 50% before Robinhood emerged to roughly 65%, and eventually to more than 95%. In his view, tokenization is a key tool for making high-quality U.S. equities and other real-world assets easier to distribute globally.
The comments came as Binance founder CZ also weighed in on X. He said stock-crypto meme experiments were "fresh and interesting," while adding that issuers need to be able to fulfill their obligations.
Robinhood co-founder Vlad Tenev said developers building on-chain have created liquidity pools and protocols that exceeded the company’s early expectations, combining meme coins, core crypto assets, and stock tokens in new ways.
Speaking on the well-known podcast The Iced Coffee Hour, Tenev said those on-chain builders put together structures Robinhood did not originally anticipate. He said meme coins are being used as an "entry point" or a "reward mechanism" that connects users with real stock tokens.
Tenev also described a broader target for Robinhood. He said the vision is to raise the percentage of U.S. households that own stocks from around 50% before Robinhood existed to about 65%. He added that he wants to push that figure to above 95%. According to Tenev, tokenization is the key method for making high-quality U.S. stocks and other real-world assets easier to distribute globally.
CZ also commented on stock-linked meme tokens on X yesterday. He wrote: "This is certainly fresh and interesting. But it is necessary to ensure that the issuers can indeed fulfill their obligations."
