Russia has registered its first group of cryptocurrency exchange operators and digital asset custodians under rules that took effect on Sept. 1. The Bank of Russia published the initial list of authorized operators, covering four exchange operators and five custodians. Sberbank, the country’s largest bank, was included on the custodian list alongside Atomyze, Voltari and Cloud Infrastructure, while VTB Bank appeared on both the exchange operator and custodian lists. T-Invest Lab, Zefir and Sistema-Crypto were also named among exchange operators. Sberbank said it has applied for digital asset custodian status and plans to launch its first crypto products on Dec. 1 through SberBank Online, SberInvestments and SberBusiness. The initial offering will support Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH) and USDt (USDT). The registrations are based on a cryptocurrency law signed in August by Russian President Vladimir Putin, which places exchanges, custodians, brokers and investors under Bank of Russia supervision while keeping the ban on using cryptocurrencies to pay for goods and services.
