Samsung Electronics formally showcased its new Galaxy AI smart glasses at Galaxy Unpacked in London, presenting the device as a premium wearable built with Google. The glasses come with Gemini integration, run on Android XR, and were introduced alongside frame designs created with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. ABMedia, citing Moore Securities analyst Lin Han-wei, said the launch could support interest in Taiwan optical supply-chain names including Largan Precision and GIS-KY.
First-generation model skips the display
Samsung’s first wave of AI smart glasses takes a deliberate approach: the initial version does not include a display screen. The report said the company aimed to move away from the bulk and overt gadget feel often associated with wearable tech, and instead leaned on eyewear brands to shape the product’s appearance.
- Gentle Monster is responsible for a black, slim, fashion-led frame style highlighted as appealing to Asian consumers.

The glasses include a high-quality camera and microphone array, use the Android XR platform, and are tightly connected to Google’s multimodal Gemini AI. Users can interact through voice commands or gestures, allowing Gemini to respond based on a first-person visual perspective.
Examples cited in the report include translating foreign-language signs in real time, checking restaurant reviews while looking at a venue, capturing key points from a whiteboard during meetings and saving them to Samsung Notes, and using voice commands to connect with ride-hailing and delivery services.
Privacy safeguards were a central part of the launch
With Meta’s smart glasses recently drawing criticism over non-consensual public recording, Samsung placed strong emphasis on privacy protections and made clear product distinctions in that area.
According to ABMedia’s summary, the glasses have a front-facing recording indicator LED. If that light is covered or intentionally obstructed, the system will forcibly disable recording. Recording also stops automatically when the glasses are removed and laid flat.
Samsung also said in an official statement that it will not use audio, screen-sharing, or image data generated through the glasses to train its AI models.
Jaein Choi, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile experience division, said privacy sensitivity differs across markets because of regulation and culture, and intentional misuse needs to be prevented. He added, “If we stop innovating because of this, we will be standing still.” Choi also said Samsung has filed more than 200 patents for smart glasses, and that the first-generation product uses only a small fraction of that work. A version with a built-in display is planned for a later stage once quality reaches the company’s expected standard.
Analyst names Largan Precision and GIS-KY
As the market value tied to physical AI glasses rises, the report said Taiwan’s optoelectronics supply chain has secured positions in key segments. Lin Han-wei of Moore Securities said he sees a sector rotation opportunity in the second half of the year and named two stocks as potential beneficiaries.
Largan Precision (3008)
ABMedia said Largan, known for optical lenses, is viewed by the market as a key beneficiary in AI glasses camera modules because of its strength in high-end miniature lens development. The report added that the theme has helped the stock’s recent performance and that it is testing moving-average resistance watched by institutional investors.
GIS-KY (6456)
The report described GIS-KY as a company historically known for laminating touch panels for Apple’s iPad line and now pushing into new business areas. In addition to ultrasonic fingerprint recognition for smartphones, GIS-KY has been working on AR waveguide lenses and high-precision optical bonding.
ABMedia said that as Samsung and Meta both expand output, GIS-KY’s AR optical components and semiconductor co-packaged optics, or CPO, are being viewed by institutional circles as a new transformation engine that could enter full-scale volume production in 2027.
Focus shifts from concept devices to commercial output
The report said analysts see AI smart glasses moving beyond the concept-demo stage and into genuine commercial mass production. As global technology groups firm up their ecosystems, meaningful revenue contributions for related Taiwan suppliers are expected to emerge gradually over the next two years, making the segment a medium- to long-term thematic trade in Taiwan equities.
