A new chatbot project in San Francisco called ChatTJB is drawing attention for presenting an apparent twist on AI: there is no actual artificial intelligence behind it. According to BlockBeats, the service was created by artist and former Google employee Tucker Bryant, who personally reads, considers, and manually answers every user prompt. On its website, ChatTJB describes itself as 「Artisanal Intelligence」 and a 「Single-Operator Large Language Experience」, or LLE. Bryant said the project is meant to satirize users’ growing dependence on AI chat tools. In his view, as products such as ChatGPT become more common, people are increasingly willing to accept answers that sound confident and polished while doing less independent thinking. Bryant said ChatTJB intentionally sacrifices efficiency so users can experience waiting, uncertainty, and the process of thought again. He added that the project is not anti-AI, but an attempt to get people to think again about how they consume machine-generated responses. The service can also respond to image-generation requests with hand-drawn pictures. Its website states clearly that ChatTJB is a satirical public art project rather than a real AI product.

A new chatbot project in San Francisco, ChatTJB, is being presented as an 「AI chatbot」, but the service does not use artificial intelligence in the usual sense. According to BlockBeats, the 「AI」 behind it is actually an 「Average Individual」.

ChatTJB was created by artist and former Google employee Tucker Bryant. When users submit questions, Bryant reads them himself, thinks through them, and writes every response manually.

Marketed as 「Artisanal Intelligence」

On its website, the project calls itself 「Artisanal Intelligence」 and describes the service as a 「Single-Operator Large Language Experience」, or LLE.

Bryant said the project is designed as a satire of users’ growing dependence on AI chat tools. He argued that as tools such as ChatGPT spread, people are becoming more willing to accept answers that sound confident and fluent, while relying less on independent thought.

Built to slow users down

Bryant said ChatTJB deliberately lowers efficiency so users can feel waiting, uncertainty, and the process of thinking again.

「It is not anti-AI,」 he said. 「It encourages people to think again.」

Beyond text replies, ChatTJB also answers image-generation requests with hand-drawn pictures. The project’s website states clearly that it is a satirical public art project, not a real AI product.

Bryant said he hopes that after trying ChatTJB, users will pause when they encounter AI-generated content in the future and remember that a fluent, confident answer does not necessarily mean a correct one.
