An ASUS RTX 4070 Super damaged during a domestic argument was repaired by a technician who transplanted its GPU core and memory onto a different PCB. Online discussion quickly shifted from the repair itself to the owner’s marriage.

An ASUS RTX 4070 Super that had been bent, cracked, and partially delaminated was powered on again after an extensive repair shown in a viral video from China. The card reportedly belonged to a man who said it was damaged during an argument with his wife, and it was later sent to a repair technician known as “Zhang Ge.”

The package included a handwritten note saying the card was accidentally broken during the dispute. In the footage, the damage was severe: the metal backplate was visibly warped and the PCB had snapped. Zhang Ge said that if the impact happened while the card was running, even the GPU core might have been burned out.

A short on the 1.8V rail pointed to major damage

The repair started with teardown and electrical testing. According to the video, the card showed a serious short on the 1.8V power rail. After removing the most valuable parts — the GPU core and the VRAM chips — the short disappeared. That result suggested the core may have survived, opening the door to a much more complicated recovery attempt.

Zhang Ge then reballed the GPU and memory chips and prepared a working RTX 4070 Ti PCB as a replacement board. After soldering the chips onto the donor board and flashing a new BIOS, he powered the card on. This time, the display lit up, turning what looked like a destroyed RTX 4070 Super into a functioning card again.

Online reactions focused less on the repair than the marriage

While the hardware work drew attention on its own, the comment section quickly moved to the story behind the damage. Many viewers said the real problem was not the graphics card but the relationship that led to it being smashed in the first place. One of the most repeated reactions was that the card was fixed, but the marriage was not.

Other comments warned that if the underlying conflict remained unresolved, similar incidents could happen again. In the end, the clip spread not only as a display of advanced board-level repair, but also as a case where a revived GPU triggered a much broader discussion online.
