The Solana Foundation has unveiled a protocol-level governance framework, allowing validators who have delegated at least 100,000 SOL to publish new proposals for network upgrades and parameter changes. Announced on July 2, 2026, the framework aims to decentralize decision-making by giving a broader set of validators direct input into protocol evolution.

Previously, core protocol decisions were predominantly handled by the development team. With this new governance model, validators can initiate proposals on critical topics such as fee structures, consensus parameters, and other network-level adjustments. This move is expected to increase transparency and foster greater community involvement in Solana's roadmap.
