Jacob Creech, vice president of technology at the Solana Foundation, said on Oct. 8 that Solana users would not need to enter a "bunker mode" even if the quantum timeline moved forward or if an AI-driven "classical attack" emerged. In a social media post, Creech contrasted Solana with other networks that might require users to take defensive action under those conditions. He said Solana uses Ed25519 and that each signing key is derived by hashing a secret seed. Under that design, even if either a quantum attack or a classical attack were able to break the curve, the exposed material would be the derived key rather than the seed itself. Creech added that the seed is never present on-chain. The remarks focused on how Solana’s key derivation model affects what would be exposed in a curve-breaking scenario, rather than announcing any protocol change or emergency response.

Creech said Solana uses Ed25519, with each signing key derived by hashing a secret seed. Under that setup, even if either a quantum attack or a classical attack were to break the curve, what gets exposed is the derived key, not the seed itself.

He added that the seed never appears on-chain.
