Solana has reduced its network slot time to 350 milliseconds, marking the first such change since the network launched. Jacob Creech, vice president of technology at the Solana Foundation, said in a post on X that the next step is a move to 300 milliseconds. A Solana slot time browser currently shows an average slot time of 360 milliseconds, below the network’s original 400-millisecond setting. The Solana Foundation said in June that it planned to lower slot time from 400 milliseconds to 200 milliseconds in total, with three additional 50-millisecond reductions still to come after this first change. All four phases are expected to be activated on mainnet through Agave v4.2, a validator client developed by Anza, though no timeline has been set. The related proposal, SIMD-0525, was approved and merged on May 14. The update was cited by Cointelegraph and carried by Odaily.

Solana has reduced its network slot time to 350 milliseconds, the first adjustment of its kind since the network was launched.

Jacob Creech, vice president of technology at the Solana Foundation, said in a post on X that the next step will be a further cut to 300 milliseconds.

A Solana slot time browser shows the current average slot time at 360 milliseconds, below the network’s original 400-millisecond setting.

The Solana Foundation said in June that it planned to reduce slot time from 400 milliseconds to 200 milliseconds. After this change, the plan still calls for three more 50-millisecond reductions.

Under the current plan, all four phases are expected to go live on mainnet through Agave v4.2, a validator client developed by Anza, though a rollout schedule has not been determined.

The related proposal, SIMD-0525, was approved and merged on May 14. Cointelegraph reported the development, and Odaily carried it in its newsflash.
