Solana founder Anatoly Yakovenko, known as Toly, said on X that artificial general intelligence, or AGI, remains far away and that his test project Percolator would likely already be live if he had been writing the code himself full time. His comments drew a clear line between where AI is useful today and where it still falls short in product development. According to Toly, AI works best in the design and specification research stage, and in fuzz testing used to uncover bugs. He added that code quality would probably improve if AI were used in that way. At the same time, he argued that the number of genuinely good products reaching the market today is unlikely to be higher than it was before the era of large language models. The remarks also revive attention on Percolator, a next-generation perpetual futures decentralized exchange on Solana that Toly said last year he planned to launch. Earlier descriptions of the project said it would use a sharded order book, aim for execution speeds comparable to centralized exchanges, and be fully open source.

Solana founder Toly said in a post on X that AGI, or artificial general intelligence, is still a long way off, adding that his test project Percolator would probably have been released by now if he had been writing the code himself full time.

He said AI is currently at its best in design work, specification research, and fuzz testing to find bugs. Used that way, he wrote, code quality would likely improve.

Toly also said the number of good products actually reaching the market today is unlikely to be higher than it was before the large language model era.

In earlier remarks, Toly said he planned to launch Percolator, a next-generation perpetual futures decentralized exchange built on Solana. The project was described as using a sharded order book, offering execution speeds comparable to centralized exchanges, and being fully open source.
