Sovright(前Electric Coin Company相关Zcash研发非营利继任组织)发布名为Argos的钱包恢复工具,帮助早期Zcash用户恢复因旧版ZEC Wallet Lite停止维护而卡住的大量资金。

Argos Tool: Solving the Fund Recovery Challenge for Early Zcash Users

Sovright, the nonprofit successor organization to the Electric Coin Company (ECC)-affiliated Zcash research and development entity, has officially released a wallet recovery tool named "Argos." The tool is designed to help early Zcash users recover funds that became inaccessible after the old ZEC Wallet Lite was discontinued in 2022. Michelle Lai, Executive Board Chair of Sovright, stated that as long as users still hold the mnemonic phrases from their old wallets, Argos can restore the affected assets. However, because the issue is limited to specific shielded addresses, the total amount of stuck funds cannot be precisely quantified — though Lai estimates the figure to be "significant," primarily concentrated among early long-term holders.

Lai described the problem as a long-standing "technical pothole" in the community that, while not obvious, has been steadily eroding user trust. Sovright currently comprises only three core members, all from the former Bootstrap system. The team is also testing a privacy-focused Zcash mining pool aimed at reducing hash rate centralization and enhancing network decentralization.

Zcash Ecosystem Fissure: ECC Exodus and Sovright's Mission

Notably, the governance structure of Sovright's predecessor underwent a major overhaul. Employees of Electric Coin Company (ECC) collectively left to form a new entity, Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL), backed by leading institutions such as Paradigm and a16z, focusing on developing Zcash-related products. Sovright emphasized that there is no adversarial relationship with ZODL and that it will continue to address "long-standing legacy issues" in the Zcash ecosystem, including wallet usability and infrastructure stability.

The launch of Argos not only directly alleviates fund recovery pain points for early users but also reflects that, despite the split among core development teams, each faction continues to drive technological progress in its own domain. For old ZEC holders, this represents a significant opportunity to reclaim their assets.
