SpaceX is seeking about $40 billion to buy Nvidia chips, according to a Financial Times report published on Oct. 6 in the U.S. The financing is said to be led by Apollo Global Management and structured with roughly $10 billion in bank loans and $30 billion in investment-grade debt, with Apollo expected to help place the bonds. The report says the fundraising reflects the scale of capital still flowing into data centers, chips and other infrastructure needed to run AI systems. It also notes that SpaceX’s Colossus data center uses only Nvidia chips and has signed agreements to lease computing capacity to major AI developers, chiefly Anthropic and Google, part of Alphabet. Anthropic disclosed in late September that the ceiling on its compute-rental contract with SpaceX had nearly doubled to $84.5 billion. Separately, SPCX shares rose more than 7% on Monday after Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas reiterated an overweight rating and a $300 price target, then added 0.49% on Tuesday to close at $171.92, with after-hours trading at $169.85 as of the morning of Oct. 7 Taiwan time.

SpaceX is seeking about $40 billion to purchase Nvidia chips, according to a Financial Times report published on Oct. 6 in the U.S. The financing is being led by asset manager Apollo Global Management.

Deal structure includes loans and investment-grade debt

Investing.com, citing the report, said the financing package includes roughly $10 billion in bank loans and $30 billion in investment-grade bonds. Apollo is expected to lead the transaction and help sell the debt.

The report said the fundraising shows how data centers, chips and other infrastructure required to run AI systems continue to draw large amounts of capital.

Colossus uses only Nvidia chips

SpaceX’s Colossus data center uses only Nvidia chips, the report said. It has also signed contracts to lease Colossus computing power to other large AI developers, mainly Anthropic and Google, which is owned by Alphabet.

Data disclosed by Anthropic in late September showed that the cap on its contract to rent computing power from SpaceX had nearly doubled to $84.5 billion.

Stock rose on Monday and Tuesday

SpaceX (SPCX) climbed more than 7% on Monday after Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas reiterated an overweight rating and a $300 price target.

According to Yahoo Finance data, the stock added another 0.49% on Tuesday to close at $171.92, its highest close since June. As of the morning of Oct. 7 Taiwan time, after-hours trading stood at $169.85, down 1.2%.
