Taipei Blockchain Week, which has been held in Taiwan for more than a decade, is officially being upgraded and renamed FUTUREMODE this year. According to the organizer’s official information, the event is scheduled for Sept. 4 to Sept. 6, 2026, at the Pavilion of Dreams at Taipei Expo Park, with its scope expanding from blockchain and Web3 to cross-disciplinary exchange around AI, digital assets, and emerging technologies.
From blockchain week to a broader technology festival
FUTUREMODE is organized by experience design company Onboard, with Google Cloud and the Taiwan Blockchain Enthusiasts Association, or TABEI, serving as co-organizers. Unlike earlier technology forums built around a single core technology, this edition is positioned around “co-creation across technology, community and culture,” extending its reach from the Web3 ecosystem into AI and other emerging technology fields.
Organizers estimate the three-day event will attract more than 10,000 participants, feature over 150 speakers, and host more than 30 workshops. The speaker lineup is set to include representatives from Google, Mastercard and AMD, alongside founders and researchers from different countries.
BUILDMODE hackathon to be held with SITCON
The most technical part of the program is BUILDMODE, a hackathon co-hosted with SITCON, the student computing conference. The hackathon is expected to bring together more than 500 developers and will feature six tracks: AI agents and automation, everyday-life AI, the future of work, AI and creative technology, AI’s social impact, and open innovation.
The event will conclude with a Demo Day to showcase project results. Beyond the conference agenda and hackathon, FUTUREMODE will also include experiential programming such as a digital art exhibition and a music festival, reflecting its “technology meets culture” positioning.
Why Taipei was chosen
The organizer said Taipei was selected because of Taiwan’s place in the global technology map. It described Taiwan as a core production base for global AI infrastructure, supporting supply chains ranging from chips to hardware.
FUTUREMODE conference director Tiffany Lai said the future will not be built by a single technology, but will emerge where technology, culture and community intersect. She also said what changes the future is not only the technology itself, but giving more people the chance to access it, understand it and take part.
Final event in Taipei’s nine-day, four-event run
FUTUREMODE is described as the final event in Taipei’s “nine days, four events” technology run. According to the report, the sequence starts with the Trusted AI Hackathon, AFA Awards, and the FinTechOn Summit in late August, then closes with FUTUREMODE in early September, making Taipei a gathering point for the Asia-Pacific technology community toward the end of summer.
Full agenda and registration details are available on the event’s official website.
