Hardware Wallets Meet Card Payments

Tangem has introduced Tangem Pay, a virtual Visa card designed to work with hardware wallets and bring stablecoin spending into everyday commerce. The product was developed in partnership with U.S. payments company Paera and initially supports Circle’s USDC on the Polygon network.

According to the announcement, the card can be used across millions of merchants connected to the Visa network, giving users a way to spend digital dollars in regular retail settings. The move is aimed at expanding crypto utility beyond storage and transfers, pushing self-custodied assets closer to real-world payments.

Launch Timeline and Regional Coverage

Tangem Pay is scheduled to go live by late November in the United States, Latin America, and key Asia-Pacific markets. The company said the service is set to cover 42 countries, including Australia, Brazil, and Japan. A broader European launch is planned for 2026.

The phased rollout suggests Tangem is targeting regions where demand for digital payments and cross-border settlement is already strong. In the stablecoin payments segment, merchant acceptance, geographic reach, and ease of use remain central to whether a product can move from niche adoption into more mainstream activity.

Self-Custody With Compliance Requirements

While Tangem Pay is positioned as a self-custody payment solution, it still operates within established compliance frameworks. Users will need to complete KYC checks, while compliance and settlement functions are being handled by Rain. This structure highlights a broader industry reality: crypto payment tools that connect to global card rails still need to satisfy regulatory and operational requirements.

Rain also plans to join Western Union’s Solana-based network in 2026, a detail that may point to future expansion in settlement and cross-border payment infrastructure. Taken together, Tangem Pay represents more than a new crypto card launch—it is an effort to connect hardware wallets, self-custody, stablecoins, and traditional payment networks in a single consumer-facing product.
