Tether's Financial Strength and Bitcoin Holdings
During his keynote at the 2025 Bitcoin Conference in Las Vegas, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino opened with impressive financial figures. “Last year we made $13 billion in profit. We currently hold about $120 billion in U.S. Treasuries as a reserve,” he stated. Ardoino emphasized that Tether has committed to reinvesting a significant portion of its earnings into Bitcoin. The company’s corporate treasury now holds more than 100,000 Bitcoin, making it one of the largest enterprise holders of the cryptocurrency. “Bitcoin is perfect, gold is imperfect,” Ardoino remarked, underscoring the firm’s conviction. He traced Tether’s roots: “We are a company born with Bitcoin. We are all Bitcoiners at heart. Everyone in our company loves Bitcoin.” He also highlighted Tether’s headquarters in El Salvador, the first country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender: “We support El Salvador, the original Bitcoin country.”
Bitcoin Mining Ambition: World’s Largest Miner by Year-End
The most attention-grabbing part of the speech was Ardoino’s declaration on Bitcoin mining. “We have invested roughly $2 billion in energy production and Bitcoin mining—actually a bit more than that. We have been very shy to say this, but I think it’s very realistic that by the end of the year, Tether will be the biggest Bitcoin miner in the world, even including all the public companies,” he said. This assertion implies Tether’s hashrate will surpass current leaders such as Marathon Digital and Riot Platforms within months. Ardoino explained that the investment covers not only mining rigs but also proprietary energy facilities and grid-balancing services, reflecting Tether’s long-term commitment to Bitcoin network security and decentralization.
Decentralized AI Platform QVAC: Non-Custodial Agents for Individuals
Ardoino unveiled Tether’s in-house AI platform, QVAC. He articulated the design philosophy: “I want my AI agent to have a non-custodial wallet, so I can grant it some money. The money is kept by the AI agent, and the agent will work for me—not under the rules and conditions of someone else.” QVAC aims to give individual users an AI agent that is truly personal, autonomous, and capable of handling on-chain transactions without reliance on centralized corporations. This represents a novel fusion of artificial intelligence and decentralized finance (DeFi). “We announced our AI platform recently. It’s called QVAC,” Ardoino confirmed, positioning it as a tool to empower individuals rather than serve corporate interests.
Rumble Wallet and a Bitcoin-First Vision
Concluding his presentation, Ardoino revealed a strategic partnership with video-sharing platform Rumble. “We are collaborating to launch a Rumble Wallet that will be Bitcoin-first, along with some stablecoin functionality for the people,” he stated. The wallet will leverage Tether’s liquidity and compliance infrastructure, offering Rumble’s global user base a simple and secure self-custodial digital asset management solution. Ardoino summed up Tether’s mission: “We are committed to empowering individuals—whether through Bitcoin, stablecoins, or AI tools—to build a more open and free financial system.”
