Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission has finalized the crypto travel rule, requiring digital asset operators to identify senders and receivers of every transaction. Effective February 27, 2027, non-compliant transfers will be banned. Operators must adopt risk policies, collect identity data, pass transaction information, and retain records for at least five years. The most challenging requirement is verifying user control over self-custody wallets. The rule aims to combat money laundering and terrorist financing, aligning Thailand with FATF standards.

Thailand SEC Finalizes Crypto Travel Rule

Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has now locked in its cryptocurrency travel rule, according to Cryptopolitan. The rule says digital asset operators must identify both the sender and the receiver in every crypto transaction. It starts on February 27, 2027. After that, transfers that do not comply will be banned.

Operators must set up transfer risk policies, gather identity data for customers and counterparties, send sender and receiver details with each transfer, and keep transaction records for at least five years. For the first two years, those records have to be ready for regulators on demand. The hardest part? Operators will have to verify that users actually control the funds in self-custody wallets.

The new rule is meant to stop money laundering and terrorist financing. And it brings Thailand's regulatory standards into line with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) international recommendations.
