THORChain has launched native Zcash swaps, allowing users to exchange ZEC directly for assets on other supported blockchains without using wrapped tokens or centralized exchanges. The rollout came with protocol version 3.20, which added support for both Zcash and Monero. At launch, the Zcash pool held more than $50,000 in liquidity, and the network had already started processing live ZEC swaps. The pool is still in a soft-launch phase, with performance under monitoring and trading subject to temporary pauses if bugs or other issues appear. At its current size, the pool is better suited for five-figure trades, while larger swaps may face higher slippage and slower settlement until liquidity expands. THORChain also said protocol-owned liquidity can automatically join the Zcash pool once the fee-to-depth ratio is high enough. That mechanism was introduced in the 3.20 upgrade and allows part of liquidity fees, set at 20% at the time, to be deployed into supported pools. With the integration, ZEC holders can swap native assets against supported assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and stablecoins while keeping self-custody. Zcash brings the number of native blockchains supported by THORChain’s cross-chain liquidity network to 14.

THORChain has launched native Zcash swaps, letting users exchange ZEC for assets on other supported blockchains without relying on wrapped tokens or centralized exchanges.

Feature shipped with protocol version 3.20

The rollout followed the protocol’s 3.20 update, which introduced support for both Zcash and Monero.

At the time of launch, the Zcash pool had more than $50,000 in liquidity, and the network had already begun processing live ZEC swaps.

Zcash pool is in soft launch

The pool is currently in a soft-launch phase, with performance under monitoring. THORChain said trading could be paused temporarily if bugs or other issues are found.

At its current size, the pool can more easily support five-figure trades. Larger transactions may see higher slippage and slower settlement until liquidity grows.

Protocol-owned liquidity can be deployed automatically

THORChain said protocol-owned liquidity will automatically join the Zcash pool once the fee-to-depth ratio is high enough. The mechanism was added in the 3.20 upgrade and allows part of liquidity fees to be deployed into supported liquidity pools. That share was set at 20% at the time.

Zcash lifts THORChain’s native chain count to 14

With the integration, ZEC holders can swap native assets against supported assets including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and stablecoins without depositing Zcash with a centralized custodian or converting it into wrapped assets on another network.

THORChain said Zcash brings the total number of native blockchains in its cross-chain liquidity network to 14. Swaps are settled as native assets on their respective chains rather than moving assets through cross-chain bridges or requiring users to give up custody.
