Threads has officially started testing its music feature in Taiwan this week. Users can now pick a track from a licensed music library, trim a 30-second clip, and embed it directly into their posts or replies to convey moods. Meta said Taiwan represents 21.08% of Threads' global traffic, making it the largest user base — and the prime reason for choosing the island as the first testing ground.
Why Taiwan First: 21% of Global Traffic
Music has long been one of the most active community topics on Threads, from concert live coverage and festival sharing to K-pop fan support and everyday playlist recommendations. Taiwan's high engagement around music content, combined with its massive user share, made it the natural choice for the feature's debut.
Three Display Modes: Simple, Lyrics, Vinyl Animation
The music feature offers three visual styles. The Simple Mode only shows the song title and artist name; the Lyrics Mode displays scrolling lyrics within the post; the Vinyl Animation Mode pairs the album cover with a rotating vinyl record effect. Users can preview and switch between modes before posting.
Rolling Out Gradually on iOS, Android, and Web
Currently the test is live across iOS, Android, and the web version in Taiwan, but only a subset of local users have access. Meta said it will gradually expand availability. If users see a music note icon when composing a post, they are eligible to use the feature. Besides adding music to their own posts, users can also reply to others with a song, diversifying how people interact on the platform.
