Tokenized stocks kept trading through the U.S. Labor Day shutdown, and the volume came close to what the sector did on a normal trading day when Wall Street was open.
According to The Defiant, citing CoinGecko volume data for the 42 largest tokenized stock instruments across the four platforms that carry most of the sector’s activity, Saturday recorded $490.3 million and Sunday logged $516.9 million. That put weekend turnover at $1.01 billion. Friday, with U.S. exchanges open for the full session, had produced $1.02 billion across the same 42 tokens. Labor Day added another $398.3 million, bringing the three-day exchange shutdown to $1.41 billion.
The article framed weekend and holiday trading as the practical case for putting equities onchain. The New York Stock Exchange closed at 4 p.m. ET on Friday and did not reopen until 9:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday. With Labor Day on Sept. 7 marked as a full closure, that left an 89.5-hour gap in which the same market exposure continued to trade onchain.
Robinhood Chain accounted for more than half of weekend flow
Robinhood’s tokenized equities made up $572.8 million of weekend volume, equal to 57% of the measured total. The split was $288.2 million on Saturday and $284.6 million on Sunday.
Binance’s bStocks followed with $303.5 million over the weekend. Backed Finance’s xStocks posted $87.1 million, and Ondo Global Markets recorded $43.8 million.
Trading leadership did not match asset size. Citing rwa.xyz, the report said Robinhood’s tokenized equities were worth $133.2 million, versus $860 million for Ondo and $631.2 million for xStocks. Across the sector, total holdings stood at $2.89 billion across 2.86 million holders.
The Defiant also cited DefiLlama data showing Robinhood Chain generated $1.61 billion in total decentralized exchange volume on Saturday, $1.51 billion on Sunday, and $1.51 billion on Labor Day, with stock tokens making up only part of that activity.
The publication said in July that Robinhood Chain had overtaken Solana in tokenized stock volume, driven by memecoin pairs. Those pairs are still active. Per GeckoTerminal, a memecoin called AI trading against tokenized NVDA turned over $11.3 million across the two days from a pool holding $22.4 million in liquidity.
QQQB led weekend trading
The most-traded instrument over the weekend was QQQB, the bStocks version of the Invesco QQQ Trust, at $180.5 million. Saturday contributed $88.9 million and Sunday added $91.6 million. That total was larger than the entire weekend volume of xStocks and Ondo combined.
CoinGecko tracked $1.34 million of circulating value in QQQB against $87.8 million of 24-hour volume, a daily turnover equal to 65 times the token’s value. Price action stayed orderly. QQQB traded at $719.36, while QQQ had closed Friday at $718.96, which the report used to argue that the turnover was not coming from a pricing dislocation.
BNB Chain markets bStocks as convertible with no fees, tradable 24/7, and deployable on Venus, Lista DAO, PancakeSwap, and Aster. Under those conditions, the article noted, a token can be recycled through liquidity pools repeatedly. The Defiant had covered the bStocks launch in June.
AMC stayed active after a public clash
Robinhood’s tokenized AMC Entertainment ranked as the third-busiest name of the weekend at $103.1 million, though the weekend was actually the quieter stretch for that instrument.
On Friday, the token traded $232.6 million, the largest single-day figure in the sample. That came a day after AMC Chief Executive Adam Aron demanded that Robinhood halt the product, and Robinhood Chief Legal Officer Dan Gallagher told him to send his lawyers.
Volume in the token reached $32.8 million on Saturday and $70.3 million on Sunday, then dropped to $21.4 million on Labor Day. Its onchain market value stood at $6.6 million.
Index exposure, tech names, and SpaceX all ranked near the top
After QQQB and AMC, the busiest weekend instruments were Robinhood’s SPY at $125.5 million, Robinhood’s NVDA at $73.9 million, and Robinhood’s SpaceX token at $63 million.
They were followed by the bStocks SpaceX token at $34.2 million, Robinhood’s HIMS at $33.1 million, the xStocks S&P 500 token at $31.7 million, Robinhood’s gold ETF token at $31.5 million, and Robinhood’s TSLA at $30.8 million.
Grouped by underlying exposure, Nasdaq-100 products led with $192.8 million in weekend trading, while S&P 500 exposure came in at $157.2 million. SpaceX ranked third at about $102.7 million across three tokens. Because SpaceX is private, the report noted, there is no reference market open at any hour on any day and no closing price for those tokens to converge toward.
Hims & Hers was the timing outlier. It recorded $26 million on Sunday against $7.1 million on Saturday. As of late August, nine memecoins were trading against tokenized HIMS on Robinhood Chain, and one of them had cornered more than half of the token’s onchain float.
Prices stayed close to Friday’s close
The report said tokenized prices broadly held near Friday’s equity closes.
The main tokenized NVDA pool traded between $229.18 and $233.52 on Saturday and between $230.15 and $233.25 on Sunday, compared with NVDA’s Friday close at $230.36. The premium never exceeded 1.4%.
Tokenized HIMS traded between $27.20 and $28.97 across the two days, against a Friday equity close of $27.71. The article also pointed back to August, when the same HIMS token printed $132.64 even as the stock traded at $28.84, at a time when a memecoin held half of its float.
When U.S. markets reopened on Tuesday, both names moved the other way. NVDA closed at $225.96, and Hims & Hers ended at $28.03.
Most volume ran through decentralized exchanges
Nearly all trading took place on decentralized venues, according to the report.
CoinGecko ticker data on a 24-hour snapshot showed QQQB doing $47 million on PancakeSwap V3, $42.2 million on Uniswap V4, and $19.6 million on BNB Chain’s native venue, against $7.2 million on Binance itself.
Robinhood’s SPY token was spread across several decentralized markets on Robinhood Chain: $29.9 million on Uniswap V4, $15.4 million on Ramses V3, and $12.3 million on Uniswap V3.
The xStocks S&P 500 token traded $10.3 million on Raydium concentrated-liquidity pools, $2.6 million on LBank, and $385,010 on Kraken, one of the first venues to list xStocks.
Centralized exchanges accounted for about 8% of tracked QQQB volume and 21% of the xStocks S&P 500 token’s volume. Robinhood’s SPY token had no exchange listing at all.
