Tom Lee, chairman of Bitmine and co-founder of Fundstrat, said ETH may be setting up for a notable move higher over the next few weeks. He argued that Ethereum held its range through August without breaking down, and that the expiration of a Sept. 12 indicator may have reopened the path for an upside trend. He also pointed to a sharp one-day move at the end of August as a possible preview of the next leg up. Lee said ETH was the best-performing macro asset in the third quarter of 2026 as of last Friday, outperforming the S&P 500 by 5,866 basis points, while ETH, SOL and BTC ranked as the top three assets since June 30. In his view, crypto’s strong Q3 performance relative to traditional macro assets could give institutions more reason to raise allocations. He also listed potential catalysts for the coming months, including a mid-September vote on the CLARITY Act, a rotation by Korean investors from AI stocks back into crypto, and what he expects to be a bottom in the four-year cycle within the next few weeks. Separately, Bitmine added 27,180 ETH over the past week and had staked about 5.067 million ETH as of Sept. 7, equal to 85% of its holdings.
Tom Lee, chairman of Bitmine and co-founder of Fundstrat, said ETH could see a clear upside move in the coming weeks, according to BlockBeats on Sept. 14.
Lee said Ethereum did not break lower during its August trading range. With an indicator expiring on Sept. 12, he said the uptrend may be ready to resume. He also said the sharp one-day gain seen in late August may have already offered a preview of the next leg higher.
As of last Friday, Lee said ETH was the best-performing macro asset in the third quarter of 2026, beating the S&P 500 by 5,866 basis points. Since June 30, the three best-performing assets were ETH, SOL and BTC.
He said crypto assets have outperformed traditional macro assets by a wide margin in Q3, a backdrop that could create room for institutions to increase crypto exposure.
For the next few months, Lee listed several possible catalysts: a mid-September vote on the CLARITY Act, a shift by Korean investors from AI stocks back into crypto assets, and what he expects will be a bottom in the four-year cycle over the next few weeks.
Lee also said sizable institutional inflows into crypto could arrive in the final months of 2026 as tokenization and Agentic AI continue to develop.
On relative performance, he said the ETH/BTC ratio could keep rising in the next crypto cycle. He said the drivers may shift away from ICOs, NFTs and stablecoins toward onchain tokenization of Wall Street assets and blockchain applications tied to Agentic AI.
Separately, Bitmine increased its ETH holdings by 27,180 ETH over the past week. As of Sept. 7, the company had staked about 5.067 million ETH, representing 85% of the ETH it held.
