Tom Lee delivered three key signals at the DACFP investment advisor conference: Ethereum (ETH) supply is in a contraction channel, Bitmine may not need to hold more than 5% of total supply to gain sufficient influence, and Bitmine is likely to be included in the Russell 1000 index by the end of June.
Fundamental Logic Behind ETH Supply Contraction
Tom Lee pointed out that the current financial system is built on multiple technology stacks with extensive “fake or fraudulent transactions”, while Ethereum and Bitcoin have never had fraudulent transactions at the blockchain level and have lower execution costs. This means the supply contraction is not just a technical phenomenon but rooted in fundamentals. Since the Pectra upgrade in 2025, Ethereum’s staking rate has risen from about 27% to nearly 32%. Enterprise-grade validators are accelerating entry, and Lee predicts ETH price could reach $250,000.
Bitmine's 5% Strategy: Holdings and Influence
The “5% of total supply” target is not new. After Bitmine bought 112,000 ETH in late May, analysts said Lee hinted at 5% as the annual goal. Now Lee says “no need to exceed 5%,” implying the accumulation may have beaten the schedule. However, pressure is mounting: Yahoo Finance reported on June 9 that Bitmine’s BMNR has about $6.6 billion in unrealized losses, while ETH price has dropped roughly 20% from its yearly high.
Russell 1000 Inclusion and MrBeast Investment
Lee also revealed that Bitmine is likely to be added to the Russell 1000 at the end of June, bringing passive fund inflows and stock price stability. The index covers the top 1,000 US companies by market cap, which would significantly boost Bitmine's liquidity and institutional allocation. Additionally, Lee mentioned Bitmine’s holdings in MrBeast-related financial firms, suggesting a diversified investment in the crypto ecosystem. MrBeast (Ryan Kandel) has become a major crypto promoter, with multiple sub-brands involved in DeFi and NFT.
Three Trackable Signals of On-Chain Supply Contraction
Lee’s comments can be broken into three verifiable market signals: On-chain supply – Ethereum total supply is about 116 million, with roughly 3.7 million locked at 32% staking rate (the original source states ~370,000). If the staking rate grows 0.5% monthly, it could exceed 35% by year-end. Enterprise validator expansion – CoinDesk data shows enterprise validators added about 1,200 nodes in the past three months, rising from 18% to 23% of total. Bitmine holdings – At current ETH price around $1,700 (approx.), Bitmine’s 5.54 million ETH holdings are worth about $9.4 billion. The gap to 5% of total supply (~5.8 million ETH) is only about 30,000 ETH.
