According to Techub News and Bitcoinist, Telegram founder Pavel Durov has announced that the native token of the TON network will be renamed to Gram, restoring the name originally given in the project's whitepaper. The change marks the fourth step in the "Make TON Great Again" (MTONGA) roadmap, which aims to revitalize the TON ecosystem. A transition period of approximately three weeks is expected, and the new website already displays the token's updated logo.
The MTONGA plan has already completed three key phases: optimizing network transaction speed and fees, re-establishing Telegram as the dominant force within the TON ecosystem, and positioning it as the network's largest validator. These foundational improvements paved the way for the token renaming and underscore the progress of the roadmap.
Durov described the move as "returning to the roots and opening a new chapter," realigning TON with its original vision. The remaining three steps of the roadmap have not yet been disclosed. After the rename, Gram will continue to serve as the core asset for transaction fees, staking, and governance on the network.
