GasFree – a fee-sponsoring mechanism launched on TRON – allows users to send USDT without needing to pre-hold TRX for gas. Instead, the equivalent USDT amount is deducted directly from the wallet balance to cover transaction fees. This design removes the friction of requiring new users to acquire TRX before sending stablecoins, bringing on-chain transfer experience closer to traditional payment apps.
According to the June monthly report released by JUST, GasFree has become the preferred solution for seamless transfers on TRON. In June, the feature processed 719,270 transactions (averaging ~24,000 per day), with a total transfer volume of $11.45 billion – an average transaction size of ~$15,900. The user base also grew rapidly, reaching more than 359,000 unique users during the month.
Ecosystem Implications Behind the Numbers
GasFree's growth is not an isolated phenomenon; it mirrors the overall activity of the TRON DeFi ecosystem. JUST, the core DeFi protocol on TRON, integrates stablecoin systems (e.g., USDD, USDJ) and lending products (JustLend) that work synergistically with GasFree. Users can transfer USDT in and out with near-zero friction via GasFree, then participate in liquidity mining, staking, or lending.
The $11.45 billion monthly transfer volume indicates that GasFree serves not only micro-payments but also a significant number of institutional and large-value transfers. This data aligns with TRON's dominant position in stablecoin transfers – TRC-20 USDT currently accounts for a major share of global stablecoin transfer volume.
Narrowing the Gap with Traditional Payments
The ease of use of GasFree lowers the entry barrier for newcomers to crypto, while also expanding TRON’s potential to attract non-native crypto users. For users who only need to send and receive USDT, “no need to hold TRX” means they can complete on-chain operations without ever touching the native token, dramatically narrowing the experience gap between crypto payments and traditional payments.
From an industry perspective, GasFree’s success validates the “fee substitution” model at the application layer: when fees can be paid using the most widely-used stablecoin on the chain, user stickiness and transaction frequency both increase significantly.
