Donald Trump’s $TRUMP memecoin investors are being offered another chance to attend an event with the U.S. president, as the team managing the token promotes a new gala dinner set for November. It would be the third such event tied to the memecoin after earlier gatherings that drew criticism from Democratic lawmakers.
Top 185 registered investors are eligible
According to the website that manages $TRUMP events, the top 185 registered investors will be invited to Trump National, the private club near Washington, D.C., on Nov. 22. The organization said VIP status will be locked on Nov. 12 and determined by investor engagement in the token.
The website says Trump is expected to attend. It also advertises that three other “legends” will join the president, though none of them have been named.
Website calls it the “most exclusive dinner in the world”
The event is being marketed as the “most exclusive dinner in the world.” At the same time, the club says clearly that “No attendees will be granted a private meet & greet with the President.”
That issue disappointed some participants at earlier events. Trump made only a brief appearance, and attendees did not get a chance to meet him directly.
Token jumped after the announcement, then gave back gains
After the gala dinner was announced, the price of $TRUMP rose about 10% to $2.25. It later slipped back near the level where it had traded in recent days. Even so, that remains only a small fraction of the token’s all-time high of around $74.
Earlier events drew criticism from Democratic lawmakers
Similar events have been criticized by Democratic lawmakers, who described them as a brazen form of corruption that gives political access to those investing the most money. The report says this is the third time $TRUMP investors have been offered a chance to be in the same room as the U.S. president.
Since the memecoin launched in the days before Trump took office again, investors have lost billions of dollars. Those losses have also become part of the debate around the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, a crypto market structure bill in the Senate.
With Trump’s crypto business interests in view, Democratic lawmakers had pushed for language that would limit the digital asset ties of senior government officials. That provision was never finalized, and the bill failed to advance last month.
Trump had said he was willing to concede on some of those requests and could place his crypto holdings in a blind trust or divest them. That possible deal collapsed when the bill failed to move forward.
Previous gatherings were held in Washington and Florida
The first Trump memecoin event was also held at his Washington-area golf club. Protesters, including congressional Democrats, gathered outside and accused the president of corruption while unidentified guests arrived.
In April, Trump also held a related conference for memecoin holders at Mar-a-Lago in Florida. Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson appeared at that event.
VIP attendees are promised gifts
This time, the top VIPs are set to receive gifts including a commemorative poster and “TRUMP fragrance.” The website’s running tally of registrants shows that the leading investors seeking invitations each hold hundreds of thousands of tokens.
