Crypto markets enter the week starting Aug. 10 with near-term direction closely tied to whether easing U.S. inflation can keep Federal Reserve rate policy on hold and reduce pressure from the dollar into year-end, according to CoinDesk’s weekly calendar.
The first major test comes with U.S. consumer price index data due Wednesday. CoinDesk said the broader issue is whether weakening labor demand is beginning to outweigh price pressures that remain above the central bank’s target.
ING strategists Chris Turner and Francesco Pesole said they expect a no-increase outcome to create a more supportive backdrop across assets.
“If we’re right on the Fed, the dollar should be due a benign decline into year-end in what should be a risk-positive climate,” they wrote in a report.
A hotter CPI print would challenge that view and place Treasury yields and the dollar back at the center of crypto trading. CoinDesk also noted that geopolitical instability remains a factor for digital asset prices. If war in the Middle East threatens key oil passageways, inflation expectations could rise, along with expectations for further rate increases.
