Techub News, citing CryptoBriefing, reported that looser U.S. bank regulation could unlock $2.6 trillion in additional lending capacity, while Europe is moving in the opposite direction with tighter capital standards. The divergence is widening the regulatory gap across the Atlantic and may affect how digital assets are positioned within finance.
According to the report, new European Union rules would raise capital requirements for systemically important banks by 16%, with implementation delayed until 2027. In the UK, Tier 1 capital requirements have been lowered to 13%.
The report also said the EU is keeping stablecoin oversight separate from traditional banking rules. Digital assets have not been folded into the stricter capital regime, and they have not been integrated into the banking system either. That split leaves the sector in a distinct regulatory position as banking rules in the U.S. and Europe continue to move apart.
